Angela Haynes may be entertaining the crowds as “Angela Kournikova”, Anna Kournikova’s twin sister, but it is great to see that the former top 100 player is back in action on a tennis court, and enjoying it.

Haynes, who reached a career high of No. 95 in 2005, is playing for World Team Tennis’ Delaware Smash this week and is quickly becoming a favorite of the crowds.

During intermission of the Smash’s first match against the Sacramento Capitals, who featured celebrity player Anna Kournikova, Haynes’ stepped onto center court to compete in a Kournikova look-alike contest.

She was introduced as “Angela Kournikova,” Anna’s twin sister, and wore a blonde wig, much to the amusement of the crowd.

Haynes’ life took a devastating turn for the worse last September when her brother was killed in a motorcycle accident. The siblings had been looking forward to traveling together this season, and Dontia was supposed to be her hitting partner on Tour.

Since Dontia’s death, Haynes and her family have been struggling through the tragedy, but now it seems that she is ready to once again compete on the ladies circuit. I wish her the best of success and look forward to seeing more of her on the tennis courts.
